For most people the concept of affirmations is a strange one. It’s not something that comes naturally or is even considered to be a valid activity. Yet, imagining what you would like to have can really make a difference in your life.
Here are some techniques to get you going if you wish to add this activity to your goal reaching processes.
Your first step is to think in the first person, that is I am. These two words are extremely powerful. They direct your subconscious to take the words as a command. It thinks that it needs to make this happen.
Use the present tense. Imagine that your wish has already come true, your goals have been reached and that you are living in that moment where your dreams have come true and your goals have been achieved.
Many sports people make use of this technique. They imagine themselves already having jumped the height, won the Olympic Gold, climbed the mountain or hit the home run. They imagine this very moment happening many times over.
Add some emotion to this feeling. Think of the pleasure and excitement you are feeling at that moment. If your goal is to move into a lovely home, feel that warmth of the pleasure and happiness when you walk into your new house.
Include at least one emotion or feeling word into your affirmation sentence. These are words such as enjoying, happily, celebrating, delighted, thrilled, lovingly, securely and many more.
Always position your affirmation in the positive. Leave out all negativity whether words, images, sound or video. Affirming: ‘I’m not losing my job’ is not going to help you. It has to be positive: ‘I am loving my job’ is what you need to focus on rather than on the fact that you might lose your job.
In any event thinking positive thoughts will make you feel happier whereas negative thoughts will bring you fear, unhappiness, anxiety and stress. There is really no question as to which one is easier to live with.
The next point to bear in mind is to keep your affirmation brief. Make it one sentence. That way it is easier to remember and to repeat to yourself. If you can, create a rhyme so that it’s almost like a jingle.
Put in an action word. This active words adds power to the effect of your affirmation. It feels like you are doing it right now. I am happily living in my new home is more powerful than I live in my new home.
Create a very specific image in your mind as to what you wish to have as your ultimate results. Affirming a red car is not as powerful as confirming the exact make of a car. Imagining a win in a baseball game is not as powerful as affirming your home run.
Only you can create your own affirmations. You can’t do it for anybody else, and nobody else can do it for you. You need to take ownership of your goals and your successes. As a prime example would be hoping your child cleans up his room rather than affirming that you can communicate with your child effectively so that he cleans his room.
As a final point, add the words or something better to your affirmation. In that way you are not limiting your success. You might be able to reach goals far beyond your dreams, why stop them from happening.
These are a few techniques to make your affirmations work for you. Many highly successful people have made use of these techniques. Whether they are famous celebrities, sports people, business folk or work at home marketers. The successful ones have affirmed their goals in very similar fashion. You have nothing to lose by trying it yourself.
