Use Feedback To Help You On Your Way To Success

feedbackDaily Quote: “Champions know that success is inevitable; that there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. They know that the best way to forecast the future is to create it.” Michael J. Gelb

In the business environment market research is used to determine what products might be useful for the target market and which ones could be profitable and popular. In our lives we seldom do any market research. We decide on a goal and just go for it.

Use feedback like market research. There are several ways of going about it. You can ask around for feedback on an idea you have and build your goal around the answers you receive. For instance you might want to start a new hobby and think that playing a musical instrument could be fun.

Be Prepared To Ask For Feedback

3398704844_d57075a236Daily Quote: “It’s a rare person who wants to hear what he doesn’t want to hear.” Dick Cavett

Many of us are very unwilling to ask for feedback. This is because we are scared of what we will hear. We would rather keep our head buried in the sand and not hear any bad news or negative feedback.

As much as this is understandable it doesn’t help not knowing the truth. If you are offending your partner by teasing them mercilessly in public and laughing at them, wouldn’t it be better to know that this is hurting them?

Ask For Feedback And Improve Your Performance

www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” Norman Vincent Peale

Many times in our lives we stand at a cross roads and we don’t know what to do. What would help us would be to find a person or coach and get some feedback to really maximise our life experiences. But we don’t ask or employ a coach. We think we can do this ourselves.

There are many times when we are faced with particularly difficult decisions and do not know what to do next that we could really do with listening to some good advice. All we need is to find somebody competent to ask.

How To Get Over The Rejections You Face

rejectionDaily Quote: “We keep going back, stronger, not weaker, because we will not allow rejection to beat us down. It will only strengthen our resolve. To be successful there is no other way.” Earl G. Graves

During your life there will be many instances where you will face opposition to your goals. This could be by missing out on a study place at your favourite University or losing out on a job you really had your heart set on getting.

There could be a date you never got asked out on, or a sporting event where your time wasn’t good enough to get selected for the main team or even the Olympic squad of your country.

The Myth About Rejection

26256311-main_FullDaily Quote: “A rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of success.” Bo Bennett

The idea of rejection happens in our own mind. We feel the rejection with our emotions. Could it be just a perception? Just because somebody said ‘no’ to us does not mean anything more than that the person said no.

Yet we make so much more out of it. We take personal umbrage if somebody denies us a request. In fact in some instances we feel rejected without even asking first. We just ‘know’ they are going to say ‘no’, so we feel rejected without even trying.

What Is Your Penalty For Not Asking

3517179610_9b5ae9a688_oDaily Quote: “When I hear somebody sigh, “Life is hard,” I am always tempted to ask, “Compared to what?” Sydney J. Harris

One of the most reluctant tasks we take on ourselves is to ask for help. We hate doing it. Our fear of possible rejection, our embarrassment in being turned down and the thought of making a fool of ourselves stops us dead in our tracks.

Here is a great exercise to do. List seven goals you would like to achieve selecting various categories in your life such as relationships, careers, education, money earning, health, fun time and recreation for instance.

Asking For Help Is Not As Difficult As It Seems

11168---American-Mail-Boxweb_FullDaily Quote: “He who is afraid of asking is ashamed of learning.” Danish Proverb.

Asking somebody for help is the easiest way of ensuring that you will be able to attain your goals. Yet most people find it extremely difficult to do this. It seems that people don’t want to look helpless or in need of assistance.

But mostly people hate to ask for help because they think they are going to get rejected. People are frightened that people will turn around and refuse to help them. So people don’t ask. They would rather not have help than stand a miniscule chance of having their request refused.

Learn To Cope With Early Failures

www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure.” Napoleon Hill

The beginning is always difficult. Whatever you start doing from new and especially if it is a goal you have set yourself that you have never tried before, the early stages will be awkward and hard to work through.

Have you ever listened to somebody try their hand at playing a violin? This is probably the most difficult instrument to try to play. Any instrument where there is an invisible point at which the note is played, such as a violin that does not have the frets that a guitar has, will give the learner some horrific sounds to start off with.

Hard Work And More Hard Work

if-you-build-it-they-will-comeDaily Quote: I’m a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it. Thomas Jefferson

In an interesting book by Malcolm Gladwell called Outliers, he makes the point over and over again that the people or groups of people who really make it put in at least 10 000 hours of work before they are remotely near becoming successful.

As an example Gladwell talks about the Beatles. The Beatles were a fairly mediocre band from Liverpool who played in quite small venues. They ended up going across to Hamburg to play there because they found more girls were interested in them and they could get drunk every night. Important requirement for young men.

The Pain Is Now But The Success Is Forever

www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: “The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore.” Dale Carnegie

These are the thoughts of a world class athlete competing at the highest level. This is especially true for endurance races such as the Tour de France where the pain threshold of every competitor is tested every day over 23 days.

Every day the cyclists pick themselves up again and start the painful journey again for the day. Their focus is on the fact that the pain will be short lived but the victory if they win will be for ever.
