Daily Quote: “There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.” Aldous Huxley
Achievers, whether in the financial or sporting fields and in fact in any part of life, have one thing in common and that is a constant commitment to improving. If you want to be more successful you have to constantly ask what can you do better.
It is particularly important in the mind-numbing pace of change that the world is going through. And this frantic change is not going to slow down. In fact it will probably speed up. What your forefathers lived through, the slow development of the motor car, the telephone, the internet will seem slow in years to come.
In order to cope with this every person on earth will have to keep pace with these developments. You will have to take on board new skills for your work, constantly learn new technology whether for work or private use.
There will be new types of sport to keep you fit, new forms of entertainment to amuse you and new careers to grab hold of. In each instance you will be required to learn new skills, perfect the use of new processes and procedures and work equipment that previous generations never dreamt would exist.
You can of course hide away and pretend this is not happening. There are certainly people who refuse to touch a computer and they are even proud of this. Then there are people who have never left the village they live in or have visited foreign countries. There are certainly some people who have managed to cling to the same job all their lives.
But on the whole these kinds of stabilities in life are becoming rare. Jobs don’t stay the same, there’s constant innovation and change. You need to work hard at keeping your skills honed to the latest work requirements.
You no longer are able to attend University once in your life time and think this is the only training and education you will need. You will need to attend short courses, teach yourself via online learning opportunities and take part in conferences. Learning will be with you for the rest of your life.
Whether it’s work, leisure, family life or community living your life will change many times over. There is no longer life time employment. Your community will evolve with different cultures and peoples changing all the time. Families do not spend their lives together anymore.
In fact without the wonders of telecommunications and new technology we would be separated from our families as we split up and relocate to all corners of the world. A call can be made via the internet or mobile phone services that allow people to keep in touch without huge costs.
How can you keep yourself up to date without feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope with all the change you constantly have to face? One of the ways to do this is to be aware that this is what life is about now and that the best way to face this is by working on small incremental improvements throughout your life.
These small steps of change may be in all parts of your life whether it is for your career and you need to add another qualification to your skills, or your family life where your children decide that they would prefer a same sex partner. These are changes that you will need to be able to cope with. Take small steps to make it easier for yourself.
