www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear.” H.P. Lovecraft

For some reason we are growing up being scared of everything. We are worried when we start a new job. We are scared when we have to move to a new place. We are concerned when we are meeting a new date for the first time. We are constantly in a state of fear.

It is said that the brave people are the ones who have fear but do it regardless. And that is probably a true and valid statement.

It does beg the answer to the question why are we so afraid all the time? You will have asked yourself that question, that is for sure. Nothing is worse than having to constantly grapple with fear and having to fight your way through it.

In fact it’s worse when you allow your fear to get you down and you end up not doing something because you are just too scared. Many regrets later you wonder how that could have happened. There was nothing to it.

Is it only the fear of failure that makes us so scared? We go to a job interview and we are nervous. Or we try our hand at flying lessons and we are petrified. Why? We have a fully competent flying instructor with us who has a full set of controls in front of him. He will take over if you make a mistake.

We meet a new person on a blind date. We are terrified. What is making us so fearful? After all if you don’t like the person you can just end the date early. Meet in a public place and you can’t come to any harm.

We start our new job and our first day is one of fear and trepidation. Yet everybody is really friendly and helpful and all are making a huge effort to make you feel at home. You have never had a bad experience starting a new job, yet every time you wonder whether it will go off alright.

If you look at your fears you will find that most of them are totally irrational. There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. Yet we tremble at the thought of doing so many things. What is it that stops us from carrying on? Why do we allow this anxiety to take hold of us and spoil our life in such a way?

What would be the worst that can happen to you in most cases? They can’t kill you! They won’t physically hurt you. You can’t hurt yourself or kill yourself, or at least only on very rare occasion. Yet you tremble as if it were your last day.

As with every other person who has to face their fears, you can too. In fact you will have to otherwise you will never be able to achieve anything. There are some people who become so afraid that they are unable to leave their homes anymore.

They have allowed their fears to totally control their entire lives. If you don’t face up to your fears and just go for it you might end up letting your life pass you by just as it is happening to those fearful few who are unable to wander outside their front door.
