Daily Quote: “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.” William Arthur Ward
Many people give up on their dreams because the first few attempts got them nowhere near where they had hoped they would get to. But if you keep on trying the water by dipping your toe in, eventually you will find the right spot or the right temperature or even the right time for your swim.
Lots of small tries, many different approaches and a great number of tiny changes in direction can lead you where you want to be. It might not end up being the route you thought it would be. You might not even quite get the final destination that you had in mind. It could end up being better!
When Natalie du Toit, a young South African swimmer, had her scooter accident at the age of 18 in 2001 she could have thought that her dream to take part in the Olympic Games could be over. Yet in 2004 she took part in the Paralympics in Athens and won one silver and five gold medals.
In 2008 she took part in both the Paralympics and the Olympics in Beijing. She had qualified for the able-bodied swimming event. Her courageous efforts to overcome her disability has earned her more recognistion and awards than might have been possible as an able-bodied swimmer.
Her original goal might have not been realised but she certainly attained goals far in excess of what she could have dreamt off when she was injured in her scooter accident.
You too can follow your dream by taking those first few steps. Leaning into it. Putting your toe into the water. Trying it out. It might not be the road you thought you would travel, but it can be as rewarding as taking a huge leap.
You might not want to take the chance of starting an internet marketing business without having a day job. Then don’t. Start small. Try out your first blog. You might just find it rewarding both in terms of personal achievement and income making.
Or you might find that your blog takes you somewhere totally different in a path that will eventually make you a living, but not what you in mind when you started your journey. You might have thought that you would make your living writing. It could end up that you make a living, and loving it, by making educational or entertaining videos.
Many people have started out on the internet wanting to make a living and have found their paths change quite dramatically. How will you know what could be the career that makes you happy if you don’t try that first step?
Sometimes your goal might be just to be able to work from home. You haven’t quite been able to visualise what that could be because you don’t know what options are available to you. Or you might know that you would like a career in music but you are not sure what that could involve.
Sometimes it takes many small little steps to try out different things, get experience in many fields to finally work out what makes you truly happy. Keep on trying little different steps. You will get to it if you keep on putting your toe into the water.
