You Become Like The People You Surround Yourself With

business group of successful business peopleDaily Quote: “Successful people are successful because they form the habits of doing those things that failures don’t like to do.” Albert Gray

When you set yourself new goals and determine what kind of life you would like to lead, do you ever consider that the people you surround yourself with could help you achieve this or hinder you? What effect do the people in your life have on your successes?

We tend to neglect this aspect of our goal setting. We look at ourselves and only judge what we are achieving in isolation to the environment we live in. Yet the people that surround us can help or hinder us vastly in reaching our goals.

Just One More Step To Achieve Your Goals

2491908933_2eacee990eDaily Quote: “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” Jimmy Dean

When you have committed yourself to a huge task and you cannot get out of it you often use a method to help yourself through this ordeal. And that is breaking your progress down into tiny achievable steps and small victories .

An example of this is Terry Fox. Terry was a Canadian humanitarian, athlete, and cancer treatment activist. He became famous for the Marathon of Hope, a cross-Canada run to raise money for cancer research, which Fox ran with one prosthetic leg.

How Not To Respond To Feedback

www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: “Once you embrace unpleasant news, not as a negative but as evidence of a need for change, you aren’t defeated by it. You’re learning from it.” Bill Gates

Have you ever played a game as a child where you had to find something and all the other participants would call out whether you were hot or cold? If you were hot then you were getting closer and with cold you were searching further away from what you wanted to find. This was particularly great fun over Easter when looking for the last chocolate bunnies.

5 Ways To Ask For What You Want

www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: “If there is something to gain and nothing to lose by asking, by all means ask!” W. Clement Stone

It’s difficult for most of us to ask for help. We anticipate that our request for help will be denied and we expect that we will be rejected. To avoid the pain of this rejection we prefer not to ask.

Check The Bottom Line

www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: “The manager has his eye on the bottom line; the leader has his eye on the horizon.” Warren G. Bennis

You’ve written down your goals, you’ve put together an action plan and now you are ready to go for it. Before you launch yourself into prolonged activity it might be worth it to work out what the bottom line will be when you’ve achieved success.

Working out the bottom line means you work out what the costs will be. The costs are not necessarily only associated with financial costs but may also be broader and include relationship and personal costs, time costs and resources costs.

Be Willing To Do What It Takes

6a00e5517aecc28833010534aa2914970c-800wiDaily Quote: “The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore.” Dale Carnegie

You’ve set your goals, made your plans and are now ready to roll towards your dream. Are you really willing to do what it takes? Will you put everything on the line to achieve your dream or will you give up because in the end the sacrifice was too much?

Many sports people are prime examples of this principle. The winners are the ones who have sacrificed everything. The Tiger Woods of this world gave up their youth to spend on the golf course. The Williams sister gave up their childhood to play tennis.

This Is Not Being Lost This Is Exploring

Exploring Daily Quote: “Do not go where the path may lead; go where there is no path and leave a trail.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Most of us spend our lives looking for our purpose. We assemble some goals and hope they will work for us. We scratch at the itch of unfulfilled lives and wonder why it’s not helping. Finally we give up and just drift through life. Maybe something will cross our paths and make sense to us.

That’s like saying that you don’t know what you like but when you see it then you will know it. Really? What happens if you never see it? Then you’ve waited all your life.

See An Opportunity In Everything

www.selfalot.comDaily Quote: “When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” Helen Keller

When life throws you a nasty surprise what is your first reaction? Do you whine and cry that you always get the bad deals or do you wonder what opportunity this could be for you to take up?

What is the difference here? You still get the nasty surprise, but the approach to handling the nasty surprise is different. Which one would be the easier to handle?

Keep Putting That Toe In The Water

p1030832Daily Quote: If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.” William Arthur Ward

Many people give up on their dreams because the first few attempts got them nowhere near where they had hoped they would get to. But if you keep on trying the water by dipping your toe in, eventually you will find the right spot or the right temperature or even the right time for your swim.

Lots of small tries, many different approaches and a great number of tiny changes in direction can lead you where you want to be. It might not end up being the route you thought it would be. You might not even quite get the final destination that you had in mind. It could end up being better!
