Daily Quote: “He who loses money, loses much; He who loses a friend, loses much more, He who loses faith, loses all.” Eleanor Roosevelt
The concept of taking a leap of faith is a powerful one. It’s not an easy action to take mainly because we spend our lives being fearful of what the future might hold. We are fearful of so many ordinary things during our lives. How much more do we fear then when we take a leap of faith?
When we plan our goals and work towards succeeding in them we look at options and work out how we are going to achieve them. We ask ourselves what we need to do to reach them.
We minimise our risk and work with our talents and resources. Most often we plod along at a steady pace and finally or sometimes not attain our goal. In fact most of our success planning tends to take into account a very slow pace of movement.
A leap of faith is therefore a very foreign move that we practice. It’s far too risky to jump into something that we have not planned for or where we have no idea what the outcome could be.
Yet in many cases what distinguishes the very successful from the somewhat successful people is the person’s ability to take a leap of faith. This could tie in with the concept of high risk and high return, a term favoured by the financial world.
Have a look at your life and remember any leap of faith you might have taken before. That would be a time when you jumped at an opportunity at high risk and not knowing what the outcome could be.
Business people and investors know all about taking risks. Most people tend to live their lives taking a safe route rather than taking a risk. A business man takes a leap of faith just by opening the doors of his business.
For a person, getting married is a leap of faith especially if one views the divorce rate. Resigning from a job and starting ones own business is a huge leap of faith. Giving up ones career to go back to University to study for a brand new qualification is a high risk venture.
You could put your name down to volunteer in a foreign country. Move to another country to take up a new job or take a promotion within your company that means relocating your family to another country.
Any of these instances requires a huge amount of courage to overcome the fear associated with such a high risk move. This is not to be underestimated. We already fear ordinary things such as taking a different route to work or joining a new club, trying out a new hobby or even going to a new church for the first time.
The amount of fear we feel then to take a huge leap is huge. We often see people who manage to do this without any apparent concern. You probably know somebody like that. A person who is always ready to try out something new or take a chance on an activity without knowing what the outcome could be.
These people are just as scared about taking that jump. They have just learnt how to overcome that fear and know how to cope with it. They are able to persuade themselves that they have nothing to lose and will cope with the outcome whether successful or not.
Try a leap of faith yourself. It might just catapult you to greater success than you ever thought possible.
